– December 2011 –
Hello everyone. We hope you've had a great holiday season filled with lots of gaming! As the year winds down, we're looking forward to a great New Year and hope to find the pointy hats and noisemakers soon. But before we pop the champagne, we want to wish everyone a happy and prosperous New Year, and share these updates in 2011's last newsletter:
First, we'd like to thank all the wonderful folks who've helped us so far with beta testing Hero Lab for the Mac. We've gotten some great feedback and the final product will be better as a result of your efforts.
We're now ready to announce the widening of our testing, as we mentioned in the last newsletter. We're going to add approximately 100 users to the Mac beta testing on a first come basis. If you're interested in trying out Hero Lab on the Mac and providing us with feedback, please click here. You'll be prompted for your license number and e-mail address, as the Mac beta is open to existing users of Hero Lab only. Please remember this is a beta release, so there will likely be issues and you'll be helping us to uncover them.
Over the next few weeks, we'll collect feedback from everyone using the Mac beta. Our expectation is that we'll be able to resolve any remaining issues uncovered from wider testing in the following weeks, which puts us on track for an official release at the end of January.
Stay tuned for more details on our website, Facebook and Twitter regarding the official release of Hero Lab for the Mac!
We've selected the first beta phase participants for Realm Works!
The response to our survey from people interested in beta testing Realm Works was phenomenal. We received hundreds of responses! We've reviewed all the surveys that were completed and have contacted the people selected.
We expect to run multiple phases of beta testing, increasing the number of participants in each phase. So, don't get discouraged if you weren't selected for the first phase; we may contact you as the testing continues to expand.
If you haven't already done so, you can still complete the survey and be considered for future beta phases. Information is available at our website.
We'll continue to provide updates as we progress through the first phase of testing.
Just prior to Christmas, we released our newest product, a FREE version of Hero Lab for the Pathfinder Beginner Box. You can find it on our download page here. You can also find a review of Hero Lab for the Pathfinder Beginner Box here. Download your copy today!
We're also happy to announce that we released the add-on package for the Pathfinder Bestiary 3 supplement. There are around 300 monsters in this tome alone to torment or aid player characters, including demiliches, grave knights, imperial dragons, and lammasus. In conjunction with the release, we've also introduced a new discounted bundle for purchase. You can buy all three of the Bestiary add-on packages for the low bundle price of $29.99. That's a savings of 15%!
Last but not least, we've added "Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Dragon Empires Gazetteer" to our existing Pathfinder Campaign Setting #7 add-on package. This package now includes information from "Book of the Damned—Volume 3: Horsemen of the Apocalypse" and "Lands of the Linnorm Kings" in addition to the "Dragon Empires Gazetteer". If you've already purchased the package, the new material will be available after you download the update. If you haven't purchased the package yet, you should check it out. It has a wide variety of updates and options for your characters!
We're happy to announce some details around the Shadowrun supplements that we're going to deliver. Our current target for the initial release of add-on packages for Street Magic, Augmentation and Arsenal is the end of January. Once these are released, we'll focus on Runner's Companion and Unwired.
Each add-on package will be sold for $9.99. However, we realize that many Shadowrun players will want most or all of the supplement books, so we're offering a sweet deal for the complete set of five. All five of these add-ons will be able to be purchased as a bundle for only $34.99. That's a whopping 30% savings!
For users who purchase the bundle prior to the release of all five supplement packages, the additional packages for subsequent books will be added to your license as a free update when they become available in 2012. Our current expectation for completing all five books in the bundle is the end of March.
This week, we released new material for Savage Worlds. The Savage Worlds Deluxe Edition is now available as a free update for all Savage Worlds users. Simply download the update when prompted, and you're ready to go!
We've also released the first of the Savage Worlds Companion books. The Super Powers Companion add-on data file is now available for an introductory price of $7.99. Build heroes with amazing powers, stop the dastardly villains and save the day as a super hero extraordinaire!
We've also introduced a Savage Worlds Companion Book bundle option for purchase. This bundle will include not only the Super Powers Companion, but also the Fantasy Companion and the brand new Horror Companion. Each book will be $7.99 apiece, but with the Companion Book bundle option we're offering an introductory discount price of $19.99 for all three books - that's a 17% savings on this bundle of awesomeness!
For users who purchase the bundle prior to the release of all three Companion packages, the additional packages for subsequent books will be added to your license as a free update when they become available in early 2012. The Fantasy Companion add-on is expected to be released in late January, with the Horror Companion to follow in late February.
This month we're highlighting another new offering under our Powered By Hero Lab program. We've added a new character sheet for Pathfinder, called "AncientOne's Pathfinder Sheet", to the update mechanism.
This customizable sheet was developed by Roger Terrell, who has made it available directly through Hero Lab. This version lets you customize the display of sections of the character sheet and provides detailed text for traits, feats, special abilities, and spells. Once you've downloaded this character sheet, it will appear as an option in the "Save Custom Output" list of options. AncientOne's sheet leverages advanced browser features, so it requires an updated version of a modern browser like Chrome, Internet Explorer, Firefox or Safari to use.
We hope you enjoy using it!
This month, we're going to focus on one of the newer capabilities within Army Builder, having your army list on your mobile phone. With this functionality, you can quickly "Mobile"-ize your army.
Want to take your army list with you on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch? First, choose "Save Mobile Roster" from the File menu to create a mobile output file. Then:
There are many applications for Apple devices that let you view web pages. Some examples include GoodReader or GoodReader Lite (free), both of which can be downloaded from the app store. Ensure you have a file viewer application installed before proceeding to the next step.
NOTE: Lone Wolf Development is not associated with, and neither recommends nor endorses, any specific application listed above.
Connect your Apple device to your computer with its USB cable, and open iTunes. Under the "Devices" heading on the left, click the device to which you want to copy the file. Click the "Apps" tab at the top of the screen to show the apps installed on the device, then scroll down until you see the "File Sharing" section.
Click the name of the file viewer application you want to use, then click and drag the mobile output file into the "<Application Name> Documents" list. Once iTunes copies the file to your device, it should appear in the list.
Now launch the file viewer application on your mobile device, and find the file you just copied to it. You should now be able to launch the file in the appropriate way for the application.
Once you're viewing the roster on your mobile device, simply touch or click a unit's name to expand it, displaying all the relevant statistics. A second touch on the name collapses the unit again.
When a unit is expanded, any text in the unit details with a grey background can be touched / clicked to expand the details for that text. This allows you to view option details without consulting the option footnotes at the end of the roster.
You can find details on using other mobile devices in the Army Builder User Manual, in the "Roster Output" section.
Give it a try!
