– January 2012 –
Hello everyone. We hope your New Year has gotten off to a wonderful start! We're looking forward to a great New Year, filled with lots of gaming, and hope you are too. It's been a busy first month here in the Wolf Lair, and we're happy to bring you these updates:
We'll also be sending out our State of the Wolf newsletter in February, providing you with some insight into our plans for the year.
Beta testing of Hero Lab for the Mac continues to progress steadily. We want to thank everyone involved for helping us get ready for an official release.
We've received some great feedback so far, and are busy working to address some of the issues identified during this round of beta testing. However, based on the success so far, we're ready to open the beta to all current Hero Lab users! You can enroll in the beta here.
At this point, we believe we'll officially release Hero Lab for the Mac at the end of March! Then, we'll focus on Army Builder for the Mac, which will benefit substantially from all the testing of Hero Lab. So, we expect the official release of Army Builder for the Mac will closely follow the end of March release of Hero Lab. We'll continue to update you as we get closer to the release dates.
January marked the official kick-off of our beta testing process for Realm Works! This month has been focused on getting everything ready for the group of testers in the first phase of the beta. With all the administrative details behind us, we're in the process of delivering the initial beta release to testers for evaluation. Stay tuned for more updates as we progress through the first beta phase.
Don't forget; we'll be conducting multiple phases of the beta test, with each phase adding additional testers. If you haven't already done so, complete our survey to be considered for future phases of testing. Information is available at our website.
Based on our desire to get as much Shadowrun material into the hands of all you runners out there, we've slightly modified and further solidified our plans. As we've shared in other newsletters, we were going to release the first three add-ons, and then focus on the others and bring them to you as soon as possible. However, those plans have now changed slightly.
In the middle of February, we'll release the three add-on packages for "Street Magic", "Augmentation" and "Arsenal". In the initial release, the Street Magic add-on won't initially support some of the more advanced spirit rules, like possession and long-term binding. We expect to release this functionality as an update for everyone purchasing the add-on within two weeks of its release. Score some new cyberware and bioware, expand your magic capabilities and gain access to all kinds of new gear. These are must have options for your runners!
Next, we'll be releasing an initial version of "Runner's Companion"! The add-on won't support the alternate character creation and alternative character concepts, but those will be added after the initial release. There's a lot of good stuff that we knew you'd want to use, and this allows us to get it to you as soon as possible.
Once released, you can purchase the add-ons for "Augmentation", "Arsenal" and "Street Magic" for $9.99 each. However, we realize that many Shadowrun players will want most or all of the add-ons for the supplement books, so we're offering a sweet deal for the complete set of five, which will include "Runner's Companion" and "Unwired" upon their release. All five of these add-ons will be able to be purchased as a bundle for only $34.99. That's a whopping 30% savings!
For users who purchase the bundle prior to the completion of all five supplement packages, the additional packages will be added to your license as a free update when they become available. If you purchase the bundle or "Runner's Companion" as a stand-alone add-on, you'll receive a free update with the alternate character creation and concepts when we release them; we currently expect to release this update before the end of April.
In next month's newsletter, we'll provide additional details around "Unwired", the final add-on in the supplement book bundle. We'll also update you on our plans for other Shadowrun books as well as incorporating material from the Shadowrun PDFs like "This Old Drone", "Digital Grimoire" and more.
This month, we've released some new material for Pathfinder. First up, we've added "Mythical Monsters Revisited" into our Campaign Setting #7 add-on. Bring these fearsome beasts from mythology into your campaigns and test your players against them! How will they fare against such foes as the sphinx, the kraken, or the chimera? Can they handle the harpies or the medusa? Only one way to find out....
With this release, our Campaign Setting #7 add-on now includes "Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Dragon Empires Gazetteer", "Book of the Damned—Volume 3: Horsemen of the Apocalypse", and "Lands of the Linnorm Kings" in addition to "Mythical Monsters Revisited". If you've already purchased the package, the new material will be available after you download the update. If you haven't purchased the package yet, you should check it out. It has a wide variety of updates and options for your characters, as well as some great challenges for them!
We also added some new material to our Golarion #2 add-on. The "Dragon Empires Primer" is the second Player Companion book whose content is available in the add-on, complimenting the previously released material from "Faiths of Corruption". Within "Dragon Empires Primer", you'll find five new character races, including the shapechanging foxlike kitsune, the spirit-bound samsaran and the birdlike tengu. The add-on also includes new archetypes, feats and spells as well. If you've already purchased Golarion #2, the material for "Dragon Empires Primer" will be available after you download the update.
We also added "Pathfinder #53, Tide of Honor" to the core data files. The fifth of six Jade Regent Adventure Paths, you'll find plenty to like, including some magic items and a new spell.
Finally, the update we've released contains a number of bug fixes. We've resolved issues with the Bladebound Magus and intelligent items, as well as others. Download your update today!
In mid-February, we'll release the "Fantasy Companion" add-on to expand your character creation options within Savage Worlds. This add-on includes traditional fantasy races, new spells, more Professional and Racial Edges, a huge bestiary of creatures and villains, and more gear than ever.
You can buy the Savage Worlds add-ons individually, or through our Savage Worlds Companion Book bundle option. This bundle includes the previously released Super Powers Companion as well as the Fantasy Companion, with the brand new Horror Companion on the way. Each add-on will be $7.99 apiece, but with the Companion Book bundle option we're offering an introductory discount price of $19.99 for all three add-ons - that's a 17% savings on this bundle of awesomeness!
For users who purchase the bundle prior to the release of all three Companion packages, the Fantasy and Horror Companions will be added to your license as a free update. Although we were slightly delayed in the release of the Fantasy Companion, we believe we'll make up some time and still be able to release the Horror Companion by the end February.
You can also help us determine what additional Savage Worlds material you want in the future by completing this brief survey. We look forward to hearing what you'd like to see next!
Additional material continues to be released using Powered By Hero Lab. and this month we're happy to highlight the following:
Last month, we shared information on how to "mobil-ize" your army by placing your army list on your phone. This month, we wanted to share another recently introduced feature of Army Builder that can really spiff up your army lists, no matter how you use them. Adding unit images to your army list gives you the ability to display your chosen images on your printed army lists, as well as within the product!
When you add a unit image, you associate a given image with a unit type in Army Builder. These images can be pictures you've taken of the units themselves, or any other image you want to use, like banner images or images you found online. To get started, simply load one of your existing rosters or begin creating a new one.
Choose Manage Unit Images from the Tools menu, using the Ctrl+M hotkey, or clicking the "Edit" button in the User Images Info Window (in the upper right of the screen when you have widescreen mode enabled) to open the Manage Unit Images form.
The User Images form displays a list with two buttons above it. Clicking the "Available Units" button on the left shows a list of the available units for the current roster, and their possible children. Clicking the "Units in Roster" button on the right only displays the units in the current roster.
Clicking on a unit displays the list of the images for a unit. You can double-click a unit to expand it and see its possible children; unit images can also be specified for those units, too.
Once you've chosen a unit, you can click either of the "Add Image" buttons at the bottom of the form. The "From File" button lets you choose a file from your computer; the "From Web" button lets you type in the URL of an image found somewhere on the internet. Once you've added an image, it appears as one of the images for the unit.
The first image you add will be chosen as the "Default Printed Image" for the unit, as indicated by the checkbox and the white border around the image. You can change this by checking the box beside another image, or unchecking the box entirely. When you add a copy of the unit to the roster, the checked image will be used as the default selection for printing. You can delete an image by clicking the small "X" button in its bottom-left corner. This removes the image from the unit, and all copies of the unit.
You can also display the user images for a unit in the User Images Info Window. This allows you to page through the list of images for a unit, or edit them with a single click.
The same images are associated with each unit, no matter how many copies of the unit you make. However, each unit in the roster can only have a single "Printed Image" specified. This is the image printed beside the unit on printed output (see the sample below). When you add a unit to the roster, the image used is the one with the "Default Printed Image" checkbox checked, if any. To have different images for your units, simply click the "Units in Roster" button at the top of the list of units. You can then look at each unit and choose an individual image for it - in this way, you can have multiple copies of the same unit in the roster, and print a different thumbnail image for each.
Try it for your next battle!
