Hello everyone and welcome to this month's edition of the newsletter. With the lazy days of summer behind us, we're looking forward to an awesome fall and hope you are too. This month, we're happy to share the following updates with you:
In case you missed our post earlier this month, our latest update for Hero Lab, version 3.8a, is now available. With this release, we're happy to announce compatibility between Hero Lab and the Fantasy Grounds virtual tabletop!
Hero Lab now lets you export your Pathfinder and d20 System characters to Fantasy Grounds by selecting "Save Custom Output" from the File menu, then choosing the Fantasy Grounds option. The files created can then be loaded into Fantasy Grounds, letting you use your Hero Lab characters on the virtual tabletop with just a few clicks of the mouse.
Hero Lab 3.8a also includes other important bug fixes and new features, so we recommend you update immediately. Please click on the image below to learn more about Fantasy Grounds at their web site.
For a limited time, we're offering a special promotion to third party publishers of Pathfinder supplements. This promotion is targeted at publishers who would like to leverage Hero Lab to boost the accessibility and utility of their products, and it's being offered in conjunction with our Powered By Hero Lab program.
If you've written supplements for Pathfinder, the Powered By Hero Lab program allows you to readily distribute data files for your product(s), allowing Hero Lab users to easily create and manage their characters directly within Hero Lab using your material. You can distribute the data files yourself or we can provide seamless access to users through Hero Lab's integrated Updates mechanism.
Sign up for the promotion by emailing email@example.com with your name, contact information, and the title(s) of some of your current published work. If you're one of the selected publishers, you'll receive two free Hero Lab licenses to the Pathfinder game system and the Advanced Player's Guide add-on to support your efforts creating data files.
Full details of the Powered By Hero Lab program can be found here.
Building on the momentum that started with the announcement of Powered By Hero Lab, we've had a number of people release data files for Hero Lab. Here's a quick run-down of recent offerings:
Great stuff and thanks to everyone involved for supporting Hero Lab!
Starting with this month's newsletter, we're introducing a new section called "Did You Know...?" Our plan is to include a topic every month that will highlight functionality in our products that you may not have discovered yet. This month, we're focusing on a neat feature of Army Builder that we'd like to bring under the spotlight.
Everyone's familiar with Army Builder's standard army list output. However, if you participate in tournaments, the standard output is typically overkill. Both the organizer and most opponents will probably want a list that better illustrates the selections you've made, without all the extra details. Army Builder has three alternate output options that you can use for tournaments and leagues.
The first option is the "Tournament Format". Unlike the standard Army Builder army list output, this printed summary doesn't include the stat information for your forces. Instead, it identifies the units you've selected and all of the options you've purchased for those units in a format that's ideal for the tourney organizer. Each part of your army is listed on the page with detailed information on the calculations used to determine its total cost, making it easier for the organizer to verify your roster.
The second option is the "Roster Summary". This format is similar to the one above, but it omits all the cost calculations. It contains just the units and options in your force, along with a few important notes about those units. As such, it is the perfect thing to hand to your opponents before each game. They get a quick summary of your army, without any of the extra details you'll want during play (that are included in the standard output).
The third and final option is the "Model List". The name pretty much sums it up, with the format including a simple list and count of the models in your army and their basic equipment. It's ideal for making sure you pack all the right models to bring to the game.
So where are these options hidden? You'll find them all via the "File" menu. Simply select "Save Text Summary / Model List" and the "Output Roster Summary" form appears. Each of the above options is available. Choose the desired format at the top and the window beneath will update with a preview of the text, which you can then print or save to PDF. Both the organizers and opponents you face at your 40K, Warmachine, and other tournaments will love it.
There are also multiple options for the output format in addition to standard printing, including HTML and wikitext, so you can copy your list into an email, post it on your forums using BBCode, or distribute it in whatever other way you like.
We hope this was informative for you! Tune in next month for another edition of "Did You Know...?".
If you love spellcasting, you'll be happy to know that Inner Sea Magic is now available for Pathfinder. With a number of new spells, over a dozen new archetypes for all kinds of spellcasters and two new magic focused prestige classes, you'll have more options than ever to smite your foes!
Inner Sea Magic is the last book in the Campaign Setting #6 package, which also includes Dungeons of Golarion and the Pathfinder Society Field Guide. It is available now.
Last month, we released Shadowrun support for Hero Lab, and it's proven to be a very popular offering. We hope everyone has been getting a lot of use out of it when creating all their Runners!
We're happy to announce that a new update is available for all you Shadowrun players. With this release, Hero Lab now has full support for Spirits and Sprites! Adding a Spirit to a mage or shaman now adds an optional spirit character with complete statistics and a full power list. Similiarly, adding a Sprite to a technomancer adds a sprite character with complete matrix statistics and complex forms.
You can even customize the added spirits and sprites with additional powers, skills and complex forms as allowed by the rules. Now your mages, shamans and technomancers can manage their minions just as easily as you can manage your characters!
Stay tuned for more updates in next month's newsletter regarding additional Shadowrun material.
