–  Internet Access Errors  –

Errors accessing the internet occasionally occur, and they are usually due to configuration problems on your computer. This guide should help you resolve your problem - please go through it one step at a time.

1. Wait a few minutes and try again

The internet can occasionally be unreliable, and sometimes the connection between you and our servers can be interrupted for a few minutes. Wait a few minutes, then try again; it's possible, that by that time, internet connectivity will be restored.

If waiting doesn't fix your problem, or if you tried and failed to do the same thing previously, proceed to the next step.

2. Check the "Work Offline" setting in Internet Explorer

When the "Work Offline" menu item is checked in Internet Explorer, Army Builder and Hero Lab can have problems connecting to the internet. To check this, do the following:

  1. Open Internet Explorer. PLEASE NOTE: Even if you don't browse the web with Internet Explorer, its settings are still used for internet access. Make sure to open Internet Explorer, and not Firefox, Chrome, or another web browser.
  2. Open the "File" menu by pressing "Alt" and then clicking the "File" menu that appears at the top-right of the window.
  3. Around the bottom of the menu, there should be a "Work Offline" menu item.
  4. If there's a checkmark beside "Work Offline", uncheck it.
  5. Click OK to everything, restart Windows, and try accessing the internet through the product again.

3. Check your Internet Security Software and Firewall

Internet connection issues are often caused by a firewall or internet security software blocking access to our products. In some cases, they can work for months and then suddenly stop allowing connections for no clear reason. This often corresponds to an update of the security software that triggers a change in its behavior.

Please check the settings in Windows Firewall and your internet security software. Make sure that the product is on their "whitelist" or "allow list". Once you've added our product, restart windows, and the product should hopefully resume working as normal.

If adding the product to your whitelist doesn't fix the problem, proceed to the next step.

4. Check your Internet Connection Settings

Some users have incorrect internet connection settings that stop our products from accessing the internet. You can check and fix this as follows:

  1. Open Internet Explorer. PLEASE NOTE: Even if you don't browse the web with Internet Explorer, its settings are still used for internet access. Make sure to open Internet Explorer, not Firefox, Chrome, or another web browser.
  2. Go to the "Tools" menu and select "Internet Options".
  3. Click on the "Connections" tab.
  4. There should be a button labeled "LAN Settings" near the bottom of the tab. Click it.
  5. Under the "Proxy Server" section, UNcheck "Use a proxy server for your LAN".
  6. Click OK to everything, restart Windows, and try accessing the internet through the product again.

If this step fixes your problem, you may want to run a virus or spyware check on your computer, to make sure that some rogue piece of software hasn't changed your settings for nefarious purposes.
