–  Pathfinder Load Error, August 2016  –

After installing the August 2016 Pathfinder data file update, Hero Lab might report the following errors when loading the Pathfinder game system:

Windows or Mac:

iPad:

Don't worry, resolving this problem is easy. There are two solutions, depending on whether or not you have the Pathfinder Community Pack installed. (If you're not sure whether or not you have the Community Pack installed, follow the instructions in section B, below.)

A) If you have the Pathfinder Community Pack installed

If you use the Pathfinder Community Pack, the problem is being caused by an old version of that pack, and can be fixed by updating it to the latest version. You can download the latest version of the Community Pack via Hero Lab's Updates screen - if you don't see it listed, follow the instructions here to find out how to update it.

If you're using older versions of the Community Pack (for example, the Pathfinder Basic Pack, or any of the other packs listed in this post), please delete them (see section B, below) and update to the latest version of the Community Pack as described above to fix this problem.

Finally, if you don't use the community pack any more, simply deleting it (see section B, below) will fix the problem. Note that if you do so, you will not be able to access any of the content in the community pack without reinstalling it

B) If you DON'T have the Pathfinder Community Pack installed

If you don't use the Pathfinder Community Pack, you likely have another update installed that is causing problems, and needs to be deleted. You can find the list of installed updates by doing the following:

On Windows or Mac:

  1. Load the Pathfinder game system in Hero Lab. When errors are reported, click "OK" - Hero Lab will load the game system, but not any other updates you have installed.
  2. Go to the "Tools" menu and choose "Manage Third-Party Updates".
  3. The list of installed updates will be displayed.

On iPad:

  1. Switch to the Pathfinder game system on the "Select Game" screen if necessary.
  2. Tap the "Updates" button at the bottom of the screen.
  3. The list of installed updates will be displayed under the "Installed Updates" section on the left.

If any updates are listed with the following names:

  • The Modern Path
  • Pathfinder Pack
  • Pathfinder Basic Pack
  • Pathfinder Campaign Pack
  • Pathfinder 3PP Pack
  • Pathfinder GM Pack
  • Pathfinder GM Mythic Pack

Delete those updates. (You can delete an update on Windows or Mac by selecting it and pressing the "Delete" button, or on the iPad by swiping it to the left and pressing the red "Delete" button that appears.)

Once an update has been deleted, you'll no longer be able to access content from it. To regain access to that content, follow the instructions here to install the Pathfinder Community Pack.
