Lone Wolf Development has two locations at Gen Con – our booth in the Exhibit Hall (#1045) and our Character Creation Station in the Pathfinder Society Organized Play area (Sagamore Ballrooms). This year we have many activities planned for the weekend, including our popular Lone Wolf Challenge, special offers for Gen Con attendees, and a special preview of Realm Works on the web. Be sure to stop by before the con is over!
Looking for us in the Exhibit Hall? We’re located at booth #1045, and this year Syrinscape is sharing the booth with us! We’re right across from the Book Signing area along one of the two main East-West corridors. Enlarge the image to the right to see where we’ll be located. We’ll be showing off our ENnie award-winning campaign management tool, Realm Works, at the booth, including a special preview of the upcoming Realm Works web version and Pathfinder® character creation with Hero Lab for iPad!
We’re also bringing back our Character Creation Station this year in the Pathfinder Society Organized Play area! Build a character using our ENnie Award-winning character management software for any games you’re participating in (not just Pathfinder), or just check to make sure that your character meets all the necessary requirements for your day’s games. You can even drop by to take Hero Lab for a spin. Just look for the big Character Creation Station banner in the back of the hall near the Beginner Box tables and the Info Booth!
The Realm Works team continues to make huge strides towards both the Content Market and the upcoming web version. In fact, we’ll have a special development preview of Realm Works on the web at Gen Con! Our staff is looking forward to showing off the additional improvements that have made in just the few months since our sneak peek video. While we won’t have a full demo of all the upcoming desktop improvements at Gen Con, we’re planning a release in the weeks following the show, which includes a number of valuable enhancements.
One of the smaller desktop enhancements we’ve been working on is integration with third-party apps, like Syrinscape. In the Realm Works update following our return from Gen Con, you’ll be able to add and play Syrinscape SoundSets from Realm Works, if you have Syrinscape installed on your computer. In the meantime, we’ll be demoing this new integration at Gen Con.
Who doesn’t love a good deal? Gen Con attendees can take advantage of two special offers at the show. Pick up Realm Works and a 4-month Syrinscape Adventure Path subscription for only $65, a savings of 15%! This deal is perfect for gamers that want to test out the new Realm Works and Syrinscape integration.
Or save over 10% and grab Hero Lab and Syrinscape’s new Player Character SoundSets 4 Pack for only $40! That’s right, now you can create a wizard, and play the sound of magic missiles and fireballs as you cast them during the game.
These special offers are only available during Gen Con for attendees, so don’t forget to stop by and take advantage of these deals before the weekend is out!
Prove you’re the Alpha Wolf and compete against your peers for a chance to win the ultimate GM package! Anyone who completes the Lone Wolf Challenge has a chance to win one of our 5 GM Bundles. Each prize bundle includes the following:
- (1) copy of Realm Works GM Edition,
- (1) copy of Hero Lab, and
- (2) great books from our publishing partners!
Books will be chosen from a collection that includes the 2015 ENnie-award-nominated Firefly Role-playing Game and Firefly: Ghosts in the Black from Margaret Weis Productions, the Advanced Bestiary from Green Ronin Publishing, the 2014 ENnie-award-winning Deep Magic and Southlands from Kobold Press, the Deadlands Marshal’s Handbook and Deadlands Player’s Guide Explorer Edition from Pinnacle Entertainment Group, and For Rent, Lease, or Conquest from AAW Games.
How do you participate? Pick up a Lone Wolf Challenge card from the Lone Wolf Development booth, #1045, and make sure you turn in your completed card by 12-noon on Sunday. Winners will be drawn at 1:00 pm on Sunday. Winners do not need to be present, but will miss out on collecting their prize in person and a performance by Dan the Bard.
Do you want to meet the Lone Wolf staff and ask them questions about your favorite products at Gen Con? You’ll have plenty of opportunities before the weekend is out! Besides finding the team at the booth, we’ll also have a number of events throughout the weekend.
We’re hosting six seminars at Gen Con this year, and a next-gen gaming event hosted with Syrinscape. While we’re looking forward to all of our events, there’s one panel we want to highlight: Traditional RPGs & Technology – Evolution or Revolution? This panel will include a group of industry innovators that have responded to the growing use of technology in gaming with creations like Mesa Mundi touch technology, Fantasy Grounds virtual tabletop, Syrinscape sound app, Hero Lab, and Realm Works. You’re not going to want to miss this discussion! You can learn more about the seminar here.
We’re also debuting an event in collaboration with Syrinscape: Live RPG Plus!™ – Where the Audience Takes Control. The audience will decide the fate of the players, suggesting monsters, weapons, and traps, at this live RPG adventure on Friday, July 31 at 2:00pm. Dicestormers host and Syrinscape creator Benjamin Loomes will GM the special event for some of the game industry’s most-notable players. Using the Realm Works campaign management tool, and Syrinscape’s sound app, the Live RPG Plus!™ event will transform the 1000-seat Gen Con auditorium into an epic gaming experience for the players as well as the audience.
Other seminar topics include an introduction to the Hero Lab Editor, using Realm Works at the table, and more. Check out our website for the full list, and be sure to grab tickets soon – a few are almost sold out!
Want something less formal? If you’re arriving at Gen Con on Thursday, come hang out with the Lone Wolf team at Loughmiller’s Pub at 9pm! We’ll be “recovering” there for a while, but feel free to tweet @lonewolfdevel or ask on our Facebook pages to see if we’re still around.
If you have Hero Lab installed on a number of computers and iPads, it can be a handful keeping track of which license number is activated on which device. We know that this can cause frustration for our users, and we’re happy to announce a new feature introduced in last week’s Hero Lab update (v.7.1) that will make it easier to manage your license numbers – device nicknames!
As of this update, when you activate your Hero Lab license, you must now specify a “device nickname” for your computer (for example “Bob’s Laptop” or “Living Room PC”). After you’ve chosen a nickname, your computer will remember it in the future, and you can double-check that you’re activating the correct license number on your preferred device.
Even better, you can review which license numbers are associated with which device nicknames with just a few easy clicks! Just head to www.lonewolfdevel.com, log in with your Hero Lab account information, and select “View All Linked Licenses”. You’ll see a list of all your Hero Lab licenses and the devices they’re in use on. Before activating a license on a new device, we recommend reviewing which license is in use where, so that you know you’re using the correct license number. If you ever need to contact technical support because of problems with your Hero Lab license, this information will also help us troubleshoot more effectively.
If you’ve ever got your license numbers mixed up, this new feature could be a game changer. Update to the latest version of Hero Lab on Windows or Mac, and start setting up those device nicknames today! (This feature will also come to Hero Lab for iPad with the next update, which we anticipate releasing sometime in August.)
Next week we’ll release a special Pathfinder update for Hero Lab, including the all new Pathfinder supplement, Occult Adventures, and the final chapters of the Giantslayer Adventure Path. For info on all the releases this month, check out the updates below!
Explore the strange and unseen secrets of the world – if you dare! Occult Adventures will release July 29th in our special Gen Con Pathfinder update, introducing six new base classes, like the Kineticist, Occultist, and Arcanist, plus new archetypes and feats to expand your occult characters! With Occult Adventures you can choose from more than 100 new spells using the all-new psychic magic system, many new magic items, and more. Begin your journey into the unknown for only $9.99!
(Please note: Content from Chapter 5, “Occult Rules”, will not be included in the initial release and will be added later as a free update.)
Giantslayer Adventure Path – Chapters 5 & 6
Prepare for the finale to the epic Giantslayer Adventure Path, as the party ventures into the dungeon below the Mindspin Mountains. Can you defeat the Storm Giant, or will he prevail over all of Avistan? Find out in Chapter 5, Anvil of Fire, and Chapter 6, Shadow of the Storm Tyrant. We’ll add all the player content from these two books as a free update in the Pathfinder release next week. The encounter content will also be added as a free update to the Giantslayer Adventure Path package, available now for only $24.99!
Waiting for the Hell Unleashed Campaign Setting? You won’t have to wait too long! It will be included in our August release. To be notified of it’s release, and other Hero Lab news, make sure to “like” Hero Lab on Facebook, “follow” @lonewolfdevel on Twitter, and “follow” Lone Wolf Development on Google+.
Last week we released a mid-month Pathfinder update for Hero Lab users, in preparation for Gen Con! If you play a character that often summons monsters or creatures, then you should learn about our new Summon Monster Creatures package. We’re also pleased to announce that the updated version of the Vigilante Playtest is available in Hero Lab! There’s more information about the playtest below, including how long it will be available for free to Hero Lab users.
Summon Monster Creatures Package
Magic-users have long been able to summon creatures to their aid, but those animals and monsters are often included in many different supplement books. To assist those characters, we’ve put together a new Summon Monster Creatures package, available now! This new package includes access to every monster listed as a summon option, such as those listed by the Summon Good Monster feat, plus the expanded list from Monster Summoner’s Handbook, Summon Nature’s Ally, and more!
Available through the Encounter Library under the “Gamemaster” menu, these monsters can easily be imported into Hero Lab to help your character. Once added, you’ll be prompted to apply any template required by the summoned monster, such as the “Celestial”, “Fiendish”, or “Entropic” templates, and select enhancements from the many feats that grant bonuses to summoned monsters. Want to add Summoner Evolutions to your Evolved Dire Rat? No problem!
Like your regular hero, you can keep tabs on your summoned creature’s hit points and track conditions through the In-Play tab. Or if you’re feeling more traditional, print out the monster for easy reference at the game table.
Best of all, if a creature is only available in a supplement package (like the Bestiary or Bestiary 2), you’ll still be able to summon them without needing to purchase those additional packages! For example, you can summon a Celestial Dire Tiger without owning the Bestiary package, and add bonuses available through summon-related feats, such as the Summon Neutral Monster feat from Champions of Balance.
So what are you waiting for? If you have a character that likes to summon “friends”, the Summon Monster Creatures package will be the perfect addition to your Hero Lab library. Pick it up today for only $4.99!
Ultimate Intrigue Playtest
Survive ruthless gangs and deceptive courtiers, with a secret identity honed through the Vigilante class in the Ultimate Intrigue playtest. Whether you use your hidden persona to defend the good or use it to perpetrate crime, the new Vigilante class provides Pathfinder players with a ton of new and unique options. Try out this new class within Hero Lab today, available as a free update for all users with a Pathfinder license!
Just like Paizo’s free playtest PDF, the Ultimate Intrigue playtest material within Hero Lab will be free to all our Pathfinder users until it releases in spring 2016. Once the book is released, the playtest content will be updated and will then become part of our Ultimate Intrigue package. For those who purchase this package once it’s released, the characters you’ve created during the playtest will continue to work in Hero Lab, and you’ll get access to any new content added in the book.
Be aware that if anything changes in the playtest when the book releases, there may be some changes you need to make – for example, if the class selects from among several abilities, and one of the options you selected for that slot is removed, your character will have that ability removed and must choose a new one. The Hero Lab files already include the updates introduced in Round 2 of the Playtest on Thursday, July 9th.
Please note that when the full Ultimate Intrigue package releases next year, you’ll no longer be able to use this new class without purchasing the package for your license.
Finally, you’ll find a number of other enhancements and bug fixes included in this month’s update. A full list of the changes are included on our forums.
It’s coming… Windows 10 releases on July 29th, and we know that many of our users will be upgrading! We’ve tested Army Builder, Hero Lab, and Realm Works, and we’re happy to announce that all of our products support Windows 10.
For Army Builder and Hero Lab users, if you’ve moved your license to a different computer within the past 120 days, your license reassignment will need to be authorized by our staff after you upgrade to Windows 10. We recommend you plan accordingly for this, to avoid any game-day issues. While our support staff tries to get license reassignment requests processed as soon as they can, it may take a few days to process your request.
As always, if you run into any issues with Hero Lab, Realm Works, or Army Builder, please contact our tech support team by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
