March 2015 Newsletter
Spring is here, and that means we’re looking forward to fun-filled conventions like Paizo Con and Gen Con. In fact, we’re now looking for volunteers to join us in Indianapolis – if you’re interested, read on to find out more about how you can share your love of Hero Lab with others!
In addition to our search for Gen Con volunteers, we have a sneak peek of a new package debuting next month for Pathfinder users with Hero Lab – the Pathfinder 2015 Bundle! Realm Works users also received a much anticipated update this month, introducing our new custom views feature for GMs and players.

Gen Con 2015, held July 30 – August 2, is quickly approaching! We have a lot of exciting plans for Gen Con this year, and we’re looking for volunteers who can help us make it all a reality. We’re seeking experienced users of Hero Lab, with a preference toward familiarity with Pathfinder. You’ll be sharing your love of the software by demoing Hero Lab to Gen Con attendees. If you’re interested, check out these details, including the benefits of volunteering.
We’ll be making our selections at the end of April or early May, so please e-mail us as soon as possible, and no later than Friday, April 24. Thanks in advance for your support!
The Realm Works team is proud to introduce custom views – a new solution to users’ ever-growing realms. With this update, all topics are now contained within the World Almanac, and the Story Almanac has been converted to a custom view that contains all the topics it previously held. Additional custom views can be created and assigned topics/articles in any combination you choose, with the option to add a few of the most frequently used views to the ribbon bar. For more information about custom views, head over to our website.
The Month Ahead
As we shared in our recent release announcement, a key member of the Realm Works team is going to be out of the country for the next couple of weeks. While he’s gone, the rest of the team will continue their work on the Content Market, web-access, and other desktop features and refinements. However, there won’t be any releases until after his return. We’ll also likely be a bit slower in handling complex support issues during this period, so thank you in advance for your patience.
In Case You Missed It: Sneak Peek of Realm Works on the Web
Last month, we shared a behind-the-scenes look at Realm Works on the web, and we were overwhelmed by all of the positive feedback! We’re glad to hear that you all liked what you saw.
Did you miss the video? Don’t worry, you can still head over to our website to take get a sneak-peek. Stay tuned for more information about Realm Works on the web!
Soon, you won’t have to worry about missing a new Pathfinder add-on in 2015. At the end of April, we’re introducing the Pathfinder 2015 Bundle, which will include material from all the Paizo Pathfinder packages we release during the year. That’s right – once you’ve purchased this bundle, any new official Pathfinder content we release will automatically be available to you!
This is the ultimate bundle of convenience for Pathfinder fans, and will be available soon for only $64.99. The Pathfinder 2015 Bundle will debut as a part of our April Pathfinder update, starting with next month’s scheduled releases – Pathfinder Unchained and the Player Companion #19 package!
What else will be included? Over the rest of 2015, we’ll be adding Hero Lab content for the following books as they release:
- All hardcover core rulebooks – for example, Pathfinder Unchained and Occult Adventures.
- All Player Companion and Campaign Setting rulebooks – for example, Heroes of the Wild and Inner Sea Monster Codex.
All content from the above books will be given to you if you purchase this package. It won’t include content from modules, adventure paths, adventure pawns, anything not published by Paizo Publishing, or anything else not listed above.
Please note: This bundle does not include content from packages which were first released in 2014. For example, even though the Melee Tactics Toolbox book released in March 2015, it’s available in our Player Companion #18 package, which was released in 2014. Thus, it isn’t part of this bundle.
We’ll notify everyone when the Pathfinder 2015 Bundle is introduced at the end of April, so keep an eye out for more release news by liking Hero Lab on Facebook, and following @lonewolfdevel on Twitter and/or Lone Wolf Development on Google+.
Early last week, we released a new Hero Lab for iPad update (v.6.2.2). As of this new update, Hero Lab for iPad looks for Pathfinder portfolios in a different folder in your Dropbox: Dropbox\Apps\Hero Lab\Pathfinder. (Previously, portfolios were stored in Dropbox\Apps\Hero Lab.)
Don’t worry, you don’t need to do anything until after you update to the latest version of Hero Lab for iPad (v6.2.2)! After you update, the app will ask you to allow it to move your portfolio files to the new folder. Once you tap “Move Portfolios”, Hero Lab for iPad will handle all of the heavy lifting for you – so just sit back, and let the app move your portfolios. Until you allow the app to move the files, Hero Lab will not be able to view or edit your characters in your Dropbox, so we recommend you press the button as soon as you see the notification.
If you have Hero Lab for iPad connected to your Dropbox account and want to know more, head over to our website for more information.
Don’t run from the fight – get up close and personal! Melee Tactics Toolbox, the latest Pathfinder Player Companion, provides players and GMs with new abilities, spells, weapons, and rules for hand-to-hand combat. If your character is the type to go looking for a fight, you’re going to love choosing from more than 30 new feats, over a dozen new kinds of magic armor and weapons, and more! Melee Tactics Toolbox joins Giant Hunter’s Handbook and Familiar Folio to complete our Player Companion #18 package for only $4.99!
Lost tombs of forgotten heroes and vanquished villains scatter the world, ready to be discovered and explored. Fill these ancient resting places with arcane treasures and holy relics, from Tombs of Golarion, the latest Pathfinder Campaign Setting. This new add-on joins Undead Unleashed, Ships of the Inner Sea, Lost Treasures, and Belkzen, Hold of the Orc Hordes in Campaign Setting #13 for only $4.99!
As always, you’ll find a number of other enhancements and bug fixes included in this month’s update. A full list of the changes are included on our forums. This update also includes a number of other enhancements and bug fixes, as well as changes based updates to the FAQ provided by Catalyst Game Labs. A full list of changes is included on our forums.
Wow! How time flies… It’s been 17 years since Army Builder first released, and 9 years since Hero Lab first debuted. Since then, technology has been changing rapidly, and we need to keep up with the times! In order to meet our users’ demands and continue to evolve our products, the tools we use to build them need to be updated; unfortunately, these new tools make it hard (or impossible) to support some older operating systems.
As such, Windows 2000, OS X 10.5 (Leopard), or iOS6 are no longer supported for both Hero Lab or Army Builder. If you’re a Hero Lab or Army Builder user currently using these operating systems, please head over to our website to find out more.
