Realm Works Content Market

We know many of you are anxiously awaiting the arrival of the Realm Works Content Market. We are, too! The final pieces aren’t quite in place yet, but we’ve received numerous inquiries about the upcoming content and what prices to expect at launch. So, it’s time we shed a little light on that subject.

The Content Market will be host to a wide range of product types from varying companies, each with their own business models. As such, there can be no hard and fast rule for how the pricing of specific item types will play out. Let’s start by exploring official content from Paizo.

Paizo has adopted a new policy on how they handle adapted print/PDF content for all of their digital partners, including Lone Wolf Development. (Please note this does not affect Hero Lab) Consumers who purchase these packages must first own the PDF of the corresponding Pathfinder content, according to our license with Paizo. How will they know, you might ask? Simple! Paizo employs a vast team of extremely gifted telepaths who can see across the lands and… No? Well fine then, the truth is, once you link your Realm Works and Paizo accounts properly, our site can ask their site to verify you do indeed own the aforementioned PDF.

As you can see in this image, when you initially go to purchase an item, you’ll be given two separate prices. One for the Realm Works content package, and one for the cost of the Paizo PDF. If you already own the Paizo PDF and your account is linked accordingly, the PDF price will show as zero.

The good thing is, our system tracks the current price over at Paizo. This means if you don’t own the PDF and it happens to be on sale, you can get it at a discounted rate at the same time you purchase your Realm Works package. We do all the work for you, so you never need to worry about a separate transaction. The PDF will show up in your Paizo downloads, should you want to view it alongside Realm Works. And your Realm Works package can be independently downloaded and imported into any realms you choose.

As we outlined in our article Making the Most of Official Content, there are a plethora of benefits to having content in Realm Works, from storyboards to Hero Lab portfolios and everything that ranges in between. The reality is that it’s a great deal of work to make sure all those features are properly put into place while achieving the high standards we strive for. Taking all this into account, we’ve done our best to price packages as fairly as possibly to ensure our success into the space age. (Starfinder Aug 2017, we’re excited!)

Below you’ll find a sneak peek of just a few of the Paizo items that will be available at launch, along with their initial prices for the Realm Works content, so you can budget accordingly. Save your pennies!

Emerald Spire

For ages untold, a gemstone monolith has pierced the heart of the Echo Wood. Now, as civilization intrudes upon this enigmatic splinter, a strange life once again stirs in the depths—one with ties to undying evils and a might beyond time itself.

The Emerald Spire Superdungeon is a massive 160 page adventure. Designed for characters of a wide range of levels, this megadungeon opens with challenges appropriate for 1st-level characters and can carry parties to 13th level or higher. Realm Works content package  $17.99

Carrion Hill

The strange city of Carrion Hill has long loomed over the surrounding swamps in eastern Ustalav. Only a few sinister scholars know the true nature of the hill’s original inhabitants—vile and depraved cultists of the Old Gods.  A monster stalks the twisted alleys of the city, spreading panic before it and leaving destruction in its wake. Can the Carrion Hill Horror be stopped?

Carrion Hill is a 32 page adventure for 5th-level characters and is a mix of urban and dungeon sites drawing their inspiration from the popular writings of H. P. Lovecraft. Realm Works content package  $6.99

The Dragon’s Demand

Founded by a famous dragonslayer, the small town of Belhaim has become a sleepy rural community just off the beaten path, a settlement where everyone knows everyone and strangers are the talk of the town. But when Belhaim’s peace and quiet is shattered by the sudden collapse of the last standing tower of its founder’s castle, things quickly bloom out of control.

“The Dragon’s Demand” is a 64 page deluxe super-adventure for 1st-level characters. Players can expect to reach 7th level by the time they complete this adventure—if they manage to survive the wrath of a dragon… Realm Works content package  $9.99

Third Party Publishers

When it comes to content, third party publishers are a different animal entirely. They do not require the PDF to be purchased before you can gain access to your data package. Yay! They do, however, keep a sizeable amount of the funds made from the sales of their products, which forces a drastic distinction in the pricing model we use. Furthermore, pricing of similarly sized PDFs from third party publishers is often vastly different from one company to the next, depending on a variety of internal numbers and costs, complicating things further.

We have done our best to procure an assortment of items we believe everyone will enjoy. And we’ve priced them as fairly as possible, based on their size and the work involved to provide you high quality content that takes maximum advantage of everything Realm Works offers. Here are a couple examples you’ll be able to pick up at launch.

Razor Coast

Under the heat of the salted sun, along a pirate-riddled coast bloated fat with forgotten riches and forbidden secrets, the subjugation of the native tribes awakens long banished horrors. Horrors whose deadly plans threaten not only Port Shaw — the corrupt fingerhold of a distant and decadent civilization — but existence, itself. Razor Coast is the long anticipated Age of Sail swashbuckling RPG campaign envisioned and designed by Nicolas Logue. It is applauded for its ambitious and original design, its epic flavor and its lurid, full-color art—including a cover by the award winning Wayne Reynolds.

Razor Coast is a massive 544 page adventure for 4-6 PCs levels 5-12. Realm Works content package $49.99

Halls of the Mountain King

An Adventure for 8th to 12th Level Characters, Halls of the Mountain King is a homage to all great delves, from the Mines of Moria on—with a few new twists. The dwarves of the Rygar canton were a hardworking group, mining ever deeper and pursuing ore into dangerous territory. This dungeon goes from a snowy mountaintop spire down through the great halls of a vanished clan, and into the depths of the earth itself. Rumors of a huge gold strike lure miners and speculators into the mountain, but as winter comes, the old mines grow deadly…

Halls of the Mountain King is a 160-page adventure that will give your gaming group something to talk about for years to come! Realm Works content package $24.99

Community Content

As we’ve mentioned before, we’ll be introducing a curated community content program. The items in the community section will be free to everyone and quality controlled by our team to prevent bloat and ensure that Realm Works users have the content they deserve.

Considering a submission of your own? Realm Works Content Sharing Guidelines Here you will find a draft of the basic guidelines we require for content submissions. Once you’ve familiarized yourself with our recommended procedures, you can tweak your realms to meet our standards while you wait for our submission form to be available.

Please Note: While our goal is to have Community Content items available at launch, they may follow shortly after.

Something new!

Along with the promised content you’ve been hearing about, we’re happy to announce something new. Reusable, drop-in material!

Map Packs: Imagine you’re weaving your recently purchased material into your latest homebrew campaign and you realize that you could use a random dungeon crawl, a trip to the local inn, or some other new location to tie the two together. Enter Map Packs! Map packs are exactly what they sound like, a variety of maps for use wherever you might find them useful. Some maps can be as simple as a dungeon floorplan you can flesh out yourself, while others come with GM overlays and pins already in place. Prices on these will vary, but they will be generally priced at $4.99 for several drop-in maps.

Portrait Packs: Let’s face it, finding the perfect portrait to represent the awesome NPC you’ve created to aid the party or be their next lifelong villain can be a pain. If you’re like us, you don’t have a lot of time for searching around for images of the local barmaid or an enterprising rogue every time your PCs run across one. Fortunately, we’ve put together Portrait Packs to save you time! Each portrait pack is themed, includes 15 portraits and will be priced under 5 dollars. Creatures coming soon!

Scenic Packs: Many adventures are made better with props and scenic images. Daunting stronghold entrances, bloody battles scenes, pirate ships, and a vast array of other images can help bring your campaign to life. In fact, sometimes just browsing through scenic images can give you an epic idea for your adventure! With that in mind, we bring you Scenic packs! These are 10 high quality images bundled into one package for just $4.99.

What comes next?

After we launch the initial wave of content, we will be prioritizing our next releases based largely on what people are asking for. We will be attempting to be as responsive as possible to what consumers want, but of course we won’t be able to get everything all at once. Are you desperate to see your favorite adventure or campaign book? Prefer to have the rulebooks or bestiaries in wave 2 instead? Let us know what products you’re ready to buy by taking our brief survey!
